The Kipevu II Power Plant entered commercial service on 3 September 2001, less than 13 months after first breaking ground. It increased the thermal generation capacity in Kenya by almost 25%, and during six weeks of exhaustive testing over 77.5 GWh were exported to industrial, commercial, and residential consumers.

Initially supplied by Wärtsilä Finland Oy, and operated by Wärtsila Eastern Africa Ltd, the 74 MW Kipevu II diesel power plant in Mombasa has been in commercial service since early 2001.

Seven Wärtsilä 18W38 medium speed diesel engines / generating sets form the heart of the plant, and dedicated auxiliary systems including an Aalborg boiler, equipped with the Hydra-Cell G25 feed pump. The boiler is for use in a “Black Start” situation; the procedure to recover from a total or partial shutdown of the transmission system.

After 15-years of continuous service, the local power station engineers were very surprised when the Hydra-Cell G25 began to suffer from a diminished flow rate.

Consultation between engineers on site and Wanner International staff soon resulted in the pump being operational again, hopefully for another 15-years.

Since the same vineyard grapes will vary in alcohol content from year-to-year depending on growing conditions, fermented wine is pumped through a reverse osmosis membrane (RO) filter to reduce the water content and concentrate the wine and alcohol. A winery installed a custom skid system featuring a Hydra-Cell H25/G25 pump for this process.

First, the wine flows by gravity from 7.6m (25-ft. tall vessels that can hold from 30,283 to 170,344 litres (8,000 to 45,000 gallons) of wine. A booster pump pushes the wine through a bag filter to remove large impurities such as grape skins and seeds.

The Hydra-Cell pump is installed on a skid system that provides intermittent, seasonal duty, eight hours a day.

ATYS-CO is a company specialising in control engineering, construction, maintenance and industrial automation equipment.

At the site of a gas processing facility in Hungary, the customer was experiencing pipework fouling due to the levels of sulphur in the gas.

This sulphur build-up on the inner walls of the pipework was causing inefficiencies which were not acceptable and gave rise to other issues as well.

The solution was to dose formation water via a Hydra-Cell H25 pump to prevent this.

Hydra-Cell was chosen over other technologies for its ability handle this non-lubricating, particle laden liquid, along with its high reliability. This has proven to be so and after several years of non-stop running, no breakdowns have been experienced and maintenance requirements have been minimal.

The end user is a privately owned company in India and having 15+ manufacturing units in Gujarat. They are one of the leaders in manufacturing Chemicals, Pesticides and other intermediate chemicals.

They are using Wanner Hydra-Cell pumps in their effluent treatment plant (ETP). In this application, waste water from a plant process is treated and recycled to use in other processes.

The waste water has total dissolved solids (TDS) of up to 40,000. To remove the dissolved solids, the waste water is fed into membrane at high pressure (up to 60 bar and up to 50 degrees C) and a membrane separates the high TDS liquid into two parts. One part is called Permate which has has low TDS and it can be reused for other processes and the other part is call Reject, this liquid is high in TDS and will be taken to an evaporator for disposal.

The previous pumps used were CAT pumps but required regular and costly maintenance at they were unable to handle the properties of the high TDS and corrosive liquids.
