Application details

This Italian OEM company builds batch-production systems for the manufacture of polyurethane foam.

For pumping catalyst and blowing agent the company is using G03 and G04 Hydra-Cell pumps instead of piston pumps or traditional metering pumps. Hydra-Cell is preferred over piston pumps for its reliability and absence of seals. Its advantages over traditional metering pumps include lower cost and smooth flow – there is no need for pulsation dampeners.

Application details

Saip, part of the Italian Pozzi Industries Group, designs and develops customised systems and machines for all polyurethane applications including sandwich panel production, refrigeration insulation and pipe insulation.

A Hydra-Cell G04 pump was selected in preference to a gear pump for injecting HFO blowing agent in a bespoke foaming application. HFO is a nonozonedepleting chemical with low global warming potential, which is more environmentally friendly than HFCs, HCFCs and Hydrocarbons such as Pentane. The pump operates in an ambient environment but pumps HFO (a non-lubricating liquid) at -23°C, conditions that ruled out the use of gear pumps but were well within the Hydra-Cell’s capabilities.

The Hydra-Cell pump was commissioned in February 2018 and is running well to date.

Hydra-Cell pumps have the ability to reliably handle non-lubricating liquids and even when the liquid is at a very low temperatures, such as -23°C.

Formed in 1993, UreaTac and based in Kyeongnam Korea, employs over 100 people.

The company specialise in the design & manufacture of PU Foaming Machines for Rigid Foams, Flexible Foams, Semi-Rigid Foams & Integral Skin Foams, along with:

Previously UreaTac had been using Beinlich & Lewa pumps in various positions of the process. However the initial capital costs coupled with the ongoing maintenance costs of these caused the company to look for an alternative, more reliable solution.

Hydra-Cell G03 & G04 pumps seemed to be the obvious choice, as their seal-less design, and proven accurate metering could not be beaten.

Pumping Pentane, Polyol & MDI at the desire flow & pressures was achieved without the need for any Pulsation Dampeners.
