A major pharmaceutical company needed “pulse-less” flow with very low flow rates, but also with the capability to increase flow rates by 1,000 times, in the development of a modular production concept. Individual components would be pieced together based on specific requirements for each drug or product. This called for a wide range of flows and discharge pressures as well as the ability to handle low-to-high viscosity fluids. A gear pump was tested, but proved too inconsistent to meet the challenges. The company then tried a Hydra-Cell Metering Solutions MT8 pump. With its seal-less, multiple-diaphragm design, the MT8 can handle low-to-high viscosity fluids and provide linear, “pulse-less” flow without the need for expensive pulsation dampeners. The MT8 is also ideal for handling the low flows required at high pressures when needed. To achieve the modular production concept with a 1,000 to 1 turndown ratio, a custom motor with an encoder for closed-loop vector control was built into the system. 18 months after the initial installation, the company placed 10 more MT8 units into production. |

A global process innovator specialising in pharmaceuticals, fine chemicals, high value chemicals, petrochemicals, agro chemicals, flavours and fragrances carry out various R& D trials on the processes using continuous flow reactionIn this process the Hydra-Cell pump is used to constantly feed the slurry along with organic solvents (Alcohol, Ester, Tetrahydrofuran (THF) & Acetone), Thionyl chloride acids such as Nitric acid, Sulphuric acid and HCl to the continuous flow reactor at low pressure up to 15 bar to carry out the reaction. In this process the Hydra-Cell pump is used to constantly feed the slurry along with organic solvents (Alcohol, Ester, Tetrahydrofuran (THF) & Acetone), Thionyl chloride acids such as Nitric acid, Sulphuric acid and HCl to the continuous flow reactor at low pressure up to 15 bar to carry out the reaction. The customer was using Fuji Techno pumps but these were not suitable for slurry dosing. Hence they switched over to Wanner's Hydra-Cell pump for its ability to pump slurries with a virtually pulse-less flow and accurate metering. Currently they are using MT08MMNJNTTD05M to pump for different types of slurry mixed with organic solvent and acids to the Continuous flow reactors with upto 30% solid concentration. The pumps was installed in February 2021 and it is still running without any maintenance, and is trouble-free. |

The largest supplier of district heating in Norway is responsible for 36% of all district heating generated in Norway and has ten sites in and around Oslo, the Company produces its energy from a variety of sources (Bio Oil, Wood Pellets, Geo-Thermal, Incinerated Waste etc.), supplying hot water to 1,000’s of homes. For a sodium hydroxide injection process, the customer has installed a Hydra-Cell MT8 pump in place of a single diaphragm pump that leaked and had difficulty achieving the required pressure. |

Hydra-Cell's G04 dosing pump and a Hydra-Cell MT8 metering and dosing pump is being used in an alkylation process for a major Russian petrochemical company specialising in the production of CIS-Isoprene synthetic rubbers. Alkylation is being used to combine light olefins with isobutane to produce alkylate, a highoctane gasoline component. The process occurs in the presence of a strong acting acid catalyst. |
